2011 new Fall TV Season

September 28th, 2011

I know you have all been waiting for my review on the new fall season.
First worth mentioning is Pan Am . Which seem to me  like a redo of Mad Men, same number of syllables and have the mn’s things going for it. takes place in early 60′s and all about style. Cant really say too much about the story, as my eyes were all over the art direction and its obvious salutes to   Mad Men,

Maybe next week I listen to what is happening in the story and not find myself distracted playing Angry Birds and trying to watch the show..
But 2 thumbs up for the stewardess, who are hot hot hot,  who knows maybe there is a story here..

Terra Nova

The much hyped Steven Spielberg remake and copy  of Jurassic park meets StarGate.  Looks to me like they shot it on the same location as Jurassic Park

Production values one comes to expect from a Steven Spielberg story.   Drama or story which could 15 year old boy to sleep.

So far, nothing is holding a candle to Breaking Bad.  Which I am still saying is almost as good as Deadwood. !

Fringe is starting off ok this year.  Last year the director took some real chances with its style. I almost wanted to get stoned and watch the episode where they were all done in cartoon format.

Eureka has seen its day, time to retire that one. Still like Warehouse 13.. Might have another season left in it..  Ancient Aliens,  now last week where they were trying to link King Arthur to Aliens,   Ok I lost it..

I wasn’t since I was  child, where my mother told me I was related to a fictional character of fairytale lore that I had heard such rubbish.

Aliens making Excalibur ! and would you believe it, they kept a straight face. Time to write this piece of garbage off.   Or at least take it total humor, like the nightly news.

Still mourning the loss of All My Children, but Ill get over it.

Hey, let me know your favorites, who knows I might review it and post something. !

Happy watching

Bob

2011 My Television Comments

August 27th, 2011

My Favorites for the Summer 2011

  • Damages the intelligently written crime/ law drama staring Glen Close, Ted Dansen, Martin Short, William Hurt, Lily Tomlin, John Goodman, among others.   Last nights episode had a cameo of Keir Dullea !First rate story telling and production with a stellar cast.   Seriously a must watch.
  • Torchwood, this years story is titled Miracle day.  This Science fiction drama spin off of Doctor Who this year is a co production of the BBC and Starz .  The plot is basically one where the entire population of the planet one day wakes up and no one can die.. for any reason.   Torchwood is re-united and their assistance is required by the CIA in the US to help find the source of this Miracle.
  • Underbelly – Two Series !UnderBelly Razor-Set in 1927 where there vice of the day is Prostitution.

  • Underbelly NZ Land of the long green cloud Set in 1972 – 1980 where the drug being marketed in NZ is Weed
  • Breaking Bad-   How far is  Gus going to drive Walter and Jesse into a life they really want to get out of  ?   Season 6 has been contracted and is rumored to be the final season..   If you have not picked up on Breaking Bad yet.. now would be a great time.

Copycat regime change in Yemen & Sirya

July 16th, 2011

This story keeps getting more odd each day,
Friday 30 countries including the US announced that they would be recognizing the rebels as the legitimate governing power in Libya,  now one day later based on that precised  win by the rebels of Libya and Syrian and Yemenis rebels announce they are going to form transitional governments themselves with hopes of the same.. – if you claim it the world will accept it sort of tude.

Even tho I seemed to have lost the bet – as Yemen didn’t fall before Libya  I have to continue to follow this story.  Its true history in the making.

Turns out it is true ,

On a related note Chris O’Dowd from the IT Crowd fame also showed up in a US movie, Bridesmaids.. playing a straight part ! that of the local cop, possible love interest.

My Day at Lacma

June 26th, 2011

A week or two ago I had the opportunity to visit LACMA the motivation for the visit was  the Tim Burton exhibition however  my opinion was the Tim Burton shows was a bit  over rated. The two hours, waiting I spent looking over the the rest  (or part of the rest)  of the Museum.

Really wonderful art is all over, all you need to do is just browse. Here are few examples
..Mark Rothko, Picasso, Jackson Pollack.

California Hwy 2 Re Opens – and its all shinney and new

June 25th, 2011

CAL 2 aka Angeles Crest National Hwy reopens. It has been closed due to fire damage for over 18 months. The reports talked about putting up new guard rails.. but the truth is.. they put all new black top on the entire road from Flintridge to Mt Wilson (20 miles)
Here is a few pictures of the new road.
once you have made your way up the 20 miles, smelling the sweet aroma of fresh yucca blooming, mountain air, smooth road.. you are treated with the top of mt wilson itself..

Some people might consider the broadcast antenna to be a distraction, but not me..To me they are impressive statues of mans conquest over the elements, showing the world our need to watch free TV 24 hours a day.   Not sleet or snow, nor road closures of any kind will prevent us from being connected to 24 hour free commercial laced media.

ALL WATCHED OVER BY MACHINES OF LOVING GRACE

June 4th, 2011

Adam Curtis has done it again.

This time its a three episode film detailing the links between the ideals of Ayn Rand and economic policy’s Alan Greenspan,  ecology and  computer networks and the basic flaw and misunderstanding we have in all of it.

What Adam is able to point out is there is NO balance in nature and our network connected world was based on the ideal – or ideals of a non governed net neutrality free flowing connected people network will create a balance in society just as they do in nature. The basic core of that idea is flawed. ! In nature there is no balance and our social networks now suffer from the same conflicts that nature in reality does.

Example :
With this twitter /FB  connected world which can organize for a minute to overthrow current power , but over a short period of time  this non governed network of people never find a balance, and tend to move back the the older corruption structure of of the past.    You need to look no further than to the uprising of Georgia, and what happened within a year of the overthrow.

The ramifications of this concept as put out by Adam are far reaching  and I urge everyone to get a hold of this video and enlighten your brain.

Change in Media for Bob – Plus a new car. Yahoo

May 4th, 2011

Today, thanks to a good friend I updated my protocols I use to collect media. Once was old almost unused protocol is now new again. NewsGroups are all the rage these days for people who want securely acquire media, without having to have a share ratio – or worry about your own internet traffic being monitored, not to mention that bandwidth is never an issue. You get 100 % full download speeds, regardless of who else might have the file.

In order to get the best media, – and I mean movies, TV and Music, you need a use a newsgroup search engine, (like torrentz) for newsgroups. Many out there, some free, some not.
A free one is Binsearch.info. a non free one is nzbmatrix.com The non free one is much better, and gives you RSS feeds if you like to automatically download your favorite show ..

Ok now you have a search engine, you need a to pay for a service. Now its getting tricky,
its a monthy fee based on your expected usage .
For pricing examples check out newsdemon.com or giganews.com
As you know a good movie these days is usually over a gig, so I would suggest you get an unlimited plan.. this site has a link to a 9.99 unlimited data plan.  Searching the internet, there are others.

If you want to just try one, many of these newsgroups sites have free 14 day trials.

Ok now you can search for media, and have a service you are paying for.. to acquire it..  now you need some software to download it.

Here is one to look at..

http://sabnzbd.org/

Its runs not as a desktop app, but runs as a mini webserver  so have your media server  downloading files , and playing them in your tv.. and from any laptop, anywhere you can access the application .. see what the status is of your downloads!!

It will also allow to enter your rss feeds for auto downloading your favorites, and even email you when something has completed, if you like.

All of this over an SSL connection, direct to the newsgroup server.

I bet one of two you readers will give this a shot for various reasons.

Take care all

Best

Bob

oh ya.. I am now driving a new A4 .. loving it.
